Nev The Barber Shopfit

Nev The Barber Shopfit

Nev the barber’s brand and shop have had a strong identity from day 1. The original pieces helped shape the early feel and were designed and made by the talented Mike van Heerden, you can see his ply coffee table in the bench shot.
The design intent was to respect these iconic pieces and allow Nev to spatially open up his shop while gaining storage space. The client brief was clear and with a few visual references, a design was developed to suit his requirements. The reclaimed Baltic Pine boards were joined along their long grain edges to maintain the linear feel of the existing ply pieces and this in turn led logically to finger joints on the benches and side table.
The display cabinet has internal storage and the taller cabinet features a plate glass top to allow visitors to peek into the drawer and check out the barbers tools of the trade.
The copper piping forms a framework to hang shelves with perspex tops for light and visibility. There’s also a clothes rail section for Nev’s rocking new shirts.
The benches have brass hinged padded seats with commercial ply (Akumi) removable boxes for additional storage. The boxes rest in a copper cage suspended from the structure.
